Hello fellow dog lovers

April has been a really busy month for us, [Read more…]

January means planning our Family Festival & Dog Show

Hi all you lovely German Shepherd and doggy mad people out there!

It’s been a busy morning at EGSR HQ this morning, we’ve been planning our annual Family Festival and Dog Show.

There’s still so much to organise and as always our biggest hurdle with such a long event will be volunteers, if you’re able to come along and give us a morning or an afternoon running a stand for us then we’d be so grateful for your help, so please do get in touch with me: sarah@egsr.org

This year there will be camping available and the music will end sooner as we were all so tired by the end of a long day and even longer week of preparation we were like zombies and we’d rather save those for Halloween!

We’re really excited to have Mad Az a Box of Frogs back again to play for us and have a long list of people to confirm the date with and hope that we’ll have a line up to keep you all bopping through into the evening.

Plans are well underway with our display arena and dog show so it’s all good just lots of things on the “to-do” list.

One of the things which we might find hardest to source this year are the tents; with the army gone for the time being before a new one crew come in and take over we might find ourselves getting wet, wet, wet – no not Marti Pellow before you all get excited but if you do know of any local or indeed not so local celebs who’d like to join us for the day they’d be more than welcome to join us so if you can help out with celebs or tents or if there’s anything that you can do to help create a better event or make our lives easier then please please do give me a ring or drop me a line.

And if you’d just like to be kept up to date on what we’ve got planned then watch this space!

Loads a love

Rescue German Shepherd Rescue

Here’s the very handsome Bilbo he is 7 and has been neutered.

Bilbo came into rehab as he was barking a lot when left. He is generally a nice older gentleman but can be grumpy and likes his own space.

Bilbo would be best suited to an older couple that want a companion rather than a family as that would be too much for him.

If you think you could offer Bilbo the home he so desperately needs and deserves, please complete an adoption application form and one of the Rescue team will be in touch

Lola looking for a home

Lola looking for a home

Lola is an adorable 3yr old female GSD X Labrador who came into the care of the rescue from a very loving home who could no longer keep her due to changes enforced by her landlord. Lola has visited the vets and she has recently been neutered, vaccinated and is microchipped. Lola is currently in foster care with 4 other dogs of varying ages, older children and cats. Although she is living with cats, she will chase them given the opportunity. .

Lola - please play ball with me

Lola – please play ball with me

Lola does have some anxiety issues which are constantly being worked on with the assistance of a behaviourist. She is can be very nervous around strangers and react negatively. With careful introduction she soon realises there is nothing to be afraid of and is then a very attentive, loving young lady. In familiar surroundings with familiar faces she is absolutely fine. Lola loves her cuddles and likes nothing better than playing ball. She walks well on a lead and has boundless energy. We are currently working on exposing her to new situations on a regular basis to help increase her confidence and social skills – camping with her foster family is the latest adventure!

Lola needs a home where her new owners will continue to work with her, build up her confidence and help deal with her anxieties. They will obviously receive help and support from the rescue with this as much as is necessary. Lola has already made huge leaps forward but she will continue to be work in progress and any new owner needs to be prepared to put time and effort into this young dog.

Lola would ideally suit a home with no young children with owners who have the time and patience to continue this adorable young dogs rehabilitation.

If you think you could offer Lola a home please complete an adoption application form and one of the Rescue team will be in touch.

Yiannis-needs a home

Yiannis-needs a home

Yiannis is a very lovable 5 year old neutered male, he will be 6 in October 2014. He is also vaccinated and microchipped. Yiannis adores children, especially younger ones. He used to visit schools to teach children how to act around dogs while with his previous owner.  He also regularly attended training classes and achieved the Kennel Club Gold Standard award. His owner was sadly unable to keep up with his training due to ill health, hence Yiannis coming into rescue and needing a new home.

Yiannis-please adopt me

Yiannis is a real character and is a talkative lad. He loves to play and can get quite excited. He is good with other dogs and has even been out to fundraising events with his foster mum promoting the work of the rescue. A large lad, he sometimes forgets his size and can be quite clumsy. His tail especially is great at clearing coffee tables!

Yiannis with his foster brother

Yiannis has had some ear trouble over the years. His ear was infected when he first came in to the rescue but this has now been treated and vets have advised that an ear cleaner be used on a weekly basis to help prevent recurring infection. A truely lovely lad who will fit well into most homes. He isn’t a cuddly dog and can seem quite aloof at first but he is bursting with character and can be a real clown given the chance.

If you are interested in adopting Yiannis please complete the adoption application form and one of the Rescue team will be in touch.

Spud is approx 3-4yrs old. He is a lovely, calm and friendly lad who adores a cuddle on the sofa. He is currently in foster care with 4 other dogs and 2 children. Spud loves to play, especially in the mud! He does have a few initial nerves when meeting new people but these are soon overcome. He is then a real cuddle bunny! Spud is castrated, microchipped and vaccinated. He is quite strong on a lead and has good recall. If you think you could offer Spud a forever home please complete an adoption form here, email us at info@egsr.org or call on 01362 637799 and one of the team will be in touch.

Shep is a very affectionate 7yr old GSD x Collie. He is completely ball mad and will only give his ball up if you give him an alternative ball!

Shep came into rescue as he was at risk of being PTS. His original owner sadly died and Shep found himself being passed around the family. He didn’t cope very well and was put in some difficult situations which resulted in Shep displaying some anxiety tendancies. He is now safe in kennels and is much more confident now, allowing his true character to shine through.

Shep has lived with other dogs before but seems to prefer bitches. He needs a home with no young children and loves spending time with people. He will would make a fantastic companion.

This adorable 8yr old lady is an ex working (security) dog. She is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Sasha is a gentle affectionate lady in the house but when out on a lead she does react to other dogs. She is currently in foster care with another GSD. She enjoys playing with a ball and has been known to climb on the trampoline.

Sasha cannot live with cats and she isn’t great with livestock. Sasha needs a home she can call her own. She is used to being crated and she doesn’t mind being left for a few hours.

Sasha is fine with children but we would rather rehome where there are no small children.

She was handed in to the rescue when she was no longer able to work the hours required as a security dog.

If you think you can offer Sasha a home please complete an adoption application form  and one of the Rescue team will be in touch.

Bath Time

IMG_3842 IMG_3840

I spent a very soggy and hairy Saturday with the wonderful Janice of Willowhaven Dog Groomers, Mattishall with the very lovely Barny. A totally adorable 4yr old neutered male GSD who is sadly looking for a new home due to the death of his owner. As always Janice had the patience of a saint as Barny was a little unsure about being bathed. We gave him frequent breaks to make the experience as stress free as possible. After 5hrs, several cups of coffee and a sneaky snickers bar for lunch Barny emerged looking absolutely amazing. Barney is now in his foster home awaiting the right family to come along and give him a new ‘furever’ home.
